Lonn Braender: Lonn has a reputation as a realistic yet somewhat impressionistic painter. His style tries to emulate the great impressionists but he tends to be smoother and simpler. Lonn's paintings are full of mood and atmosphere while having a serenity about them - even the darkest of night scenes. Take a look and you will see there are soft and gentle landscapes and seascapes, still lifes, as well as deep and dark night scenes full of mystery and intrigue. In the past few years, Lonn has mastered the use of Aquapasto, giving his watercolors a rich and luxurious texture. This is the perfect medium for a still life or a figure painting - allowing the use of thicker, oil-like paint, yet keeping the transparency of watercolor. Though out his painting career you will see that he is also comfortable in oil paints, pastels and will work in mixed media if the painting calls for it. Lonn is not afraid to try any technique or medium if it will help accomplish the desired effect. The range of his work encompasses both the light and simple to the deep, dark thoughtful paintings. Lonn wants you to look at his paintings and be swept away to the same place he was at the time he painted it. Many of the scenes depicted in his work are of the Isle of Shoals - a small group of islands off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and the surrounding New England area, where he travels annually for inspiration. Bucks County, PA is also a favorite subject, as well as being his home. Lonn holds a Bachelor of Art from The College of New Jersey. He studied for three years with E.B. Lewis, Philadelphia Watercolorist/Painter; at Artworks of Trenton, NJ; for more than 15 years with Hamilton Painter Kim Brauer; and most recently with Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art Professor Beverly Fuller Garnett. He is a past President and newsletter editor of The Trenton Artist Workshop Associate (TAWA) and he belongs to several regional and national watercolor societies.
