Shawn Button Who is Shawn Button? You can find Shawn with a paintbrush in his hands, following his dreams. Ever since Shawn was a kid, everyone seemed to have an idea of what they wanted him to be when he grew up. Shawn followed his own path and wanted to be an artist. He realized this new destination when a young artist, Alexandra Nechita, inspired him at the age of 11. Shawn is now 18, and has never stopped painting, drawing, or surrounding himself with art in every possible way. Shawn’s parents have been very supportive and enthusiastically encouraged this budding talent. In 2003, Shawn and his parents packed their bags and headed off to Portugal. There, Shawn, with his family by his side, studied with Charles C. Gruppé – one of America ’s most respected families of artists. In 2004 Shawn went to Venice, Italy and studied with Gruppé again and has studied with other people from around the country. “ Venice was an amazing experience for me as an artist, painting in what seemed to be a different world was really motivating and inspirational” noted Shawn. Later that year Shawn was asked to be a feature profile on website of clothing retailer Abercrombie and Fitch, for being a young aspiring artist. Shawn has won many awards and has given away paintings for auctions to organizations supporting AIDS research as well as a local family’s daughter’s battle with cancer. “The dream is to be an inspiration to kids everywhere, just like I was inspired when I was young,” says Shawn. Shawn tries to find a balance with his school and furthering his aspirations in the arts. Shawn is excited about his future and he is making the best of it along the way.
