Robert Gherman: Robert was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1953 and studied art at the Art Students League of New York. His teachers had been known as the classical modern masters. He studied landscape painting and life drawing with Frank Mason, David Lefel, and Albert Handel. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado in 1978. Robert’s paintings have been sold to many private collectors and his work has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, University of Colorado Fine Art Museum, The Denver Art Museum, Princeton Gallery of Fine Art, The Squibb Collection, Art Masters Gallery Princeton, Abelle Gallery, and the Lambertville Gallery of Fine Art. Estelle Sinclaire, art critic of the New York Times, once wrote, “Gherman is not seeking a new artistic vocabulary. He has one based around the words hard work and control…control which has to be learned the old fashioned way through hard work. Gherman’s paintings speak of a universal vocabulary of clean technique. His portraits are accomplished works of art”. Gherman paints mostly in oils. His small still lifes are robust in color yet subdued by the classical nature of his technique. The landscapes are larger and he captures the very nature of atmosphere. The Home News once wrote, “Robert’s landscapes show a strong influence of the French Barbizon School and his portraits reflect the influence of the Dutch Masters”. Robert paints daily from his studio in, New Jersey, yet finds time to conduct other activities in the arts. He is the Vice President and Publisher of Picture Framing Magazine, a magazine serving the trade to over 27,000 picture framers, conservators, and art galleries worldwide. He is the show director of the West Coast Art and Frame Show in Las Vegas, and has served as Show Director for Art Philadelphia, Trenton Arts Commissioner, and director for many art charity auctions.
