Rose Reilly Leonard

Rose Reilly Leonard: Rose Reilly Leonard began her infatuation with the visual arts at a very young age at her mother's side. As a six-year-old, following her mother's instructions, she began mixing colors for her paintings which were inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Her mother, self-taught in oils, was an avid painter, and the two painted together throughout Rose’s youth. Music was also a part of Rose's childhood. Her father, an accomplished violinist, was also a great influence in her life. Ballet became Rose's passion during her teen years and eventually her vocation, as well, as she taught dance for several years into her twenties. Rose did come back to her first love, and revived her interest in painting, but this time as a watercolorist. She found the transparent subtleties, the softness and graceful lines irresistible and a perfect match for her temperament. She knew she would need professional instruction to achieve the level of work she was seeking, so she began instruction with many local artists, learning varied techniques from every source available. Her watercolor journey has led her now to study with Anthony Ventura, a signature member of The American Watercolor Society. She is determined to work toward achieving her own interpretation of artistic purity in her work. A member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, and involved in many local art groups and organizations, Rose Reilly Leonard shows her work in many local venues.
