Jeff Smith: I have been interested in art most of my life. I am self-taught, and started with portraits and landscapes in charcoal. This media developed the mechanics which I would later need to progress in my artistic journey. Living in New Jersey affords me a wide range of visual subject matter: landscapes, city scenes and ocean scenes. These subjects, I feel are best expressed in color, and because of that I had to teach myself painting. I find watercolors and acrylics are perfect for my expression of these subjects. This has been my focus for the last few years. And I find the more I work on these public scenes the more interesting the people and places become. My philosophy is simple; drawing is the means to the end. My work has been exhibited in numerous juried and open shows around the state, and can be found in many private collections.
