Robert Lebrón "Paris & New York"
American Impressionist, Robert Lebrón, brings a little of the two most romantic cities to New Hope, PA. Lebrón, renown palette knife painter, returns to BOI’s of New Hope Art Gallery for his third solo exhibition in as many years. The show, which will take place September 22nd, will present over 25 paintings depicting the cities of New York and Paris - at their most romantic - as only Lebrón can do!
Times Square, with it’s fast moving trolley cars, and lighted marquees; Wall Street, covered in a silken blanket of pure white snow and fanned by American flags; a horse and buggy ride in Central Park; these are just a few of the places to be seen. Born, raised and schooled in the big apple just after New York got that name, the artist has been painting the cityscape of New York for than 7 decades. In this show, split not quite in half, New York may seem to dominate but does not out-shine Paris.
“The City of Lights”, one of the artist’s favorite cities, is depicted in an old world elegance and charm. With more than 50 trips to Paris, Lebrón has painted the cities most memorable and romantic spots. You can stroll past Roman ‘bâtiment’ de La Madeleine; reminisce about the last time you visited La Louvre or the Paris Opera; or spent an evening in the nightclubs of Montmartre. These are a few of the scenes Lebrón has brought back from an ‘age gone by’.
Though turning 80 years old this year, Robert continues to paint daily. He still gets excited when he starts a painting; as if it were a new experience. Lebrón has had a long and distinguished career, one that finds his paintings gracing the walls of several US museums; private and corporate collectors around the world; and the homes of movie stars. Among some of his many famous collectors are Carol Burnette, Jane Russell, Ron Howard, to name a few.
The Chicago Art Institute, Cartier, and National Geographic have used Lebrón paintings for holiday cards. The latest museum acquisition occurred just last year in Kearney, Missouri. The Jesse James Museum had two canvases from Lebrón to exhibit. In one, Jesse, is shown robbing his first bank. The second painting depicts the James Gang robbing a train. And his many fans search for the infamous mascot “Wags” the dog that comes from his time working on the comic strip “Dickie Dare”
Lebrón’s first show at BOI’s of New Hope Art Gallery in 2005 brought people from as far as Connecticut, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC to see the artist. One person even brought a canvas that Lebrón painted during his years living in Spain, in hopes the artist would be able to give a little history or story about the piece.
The owners of BOI’s of New Hope Art Gallery are very excited about this latest exhibition. It will be the first “Catalog Exhibition” for the artist on the east coast. The show, focusing on New York and Paris is “magical” says gallery owner, Lonn Braender. But don’t be surprised to find a few local paintings as well. “We cannot not show the New Hope paintings too! Robert fell in love with New Hope on his first trip to New Hope.” Lebrón will continue his tradition of an afternoon demonstration the day of the Opening Reception. Seating is limited; reservations are suggested for this ‘half painting – half story-telling’ session.
